Light Blue Belt
The Light Blue Belt is the beginning rank in Vovinam, symbolizing the vast sky and the student’s openness to learn. At this stage, students focus on building a strong foundation—learning basic stances, blocks, strikes, and kicks—while developing discipline, respect, and the mindset of a dedicated martial artist.
Dark Blue Belt (I,II,III)
The Dark Blue Belt represents growth, progress, and the deepening of a student’s martial journey. At this stage, students officially become Vovinam Disciples, committing to the art, its philosophy, and its discipline.
As Dark Blue Belts, students begin to learn flying kicks, counter-attacks, sparring, and wrestling techniques, while continuing to refine their forms and self-defense skills. Progression through the stripes reflects increasing mastery in different techniques.
Yellow Belt
The Yellow Belt represents the earth, symbolizing stability, responsibility, and the student’s growth from learner to leader. At this stage, students transition from focusing solely on their own progress to also supporting the progress of others.
Yellow Belts take on the role of instructors, assisting in teaching classes and guiding newer students through the fundamentals of Vovinam. They are entrusted with upholding discipline, respect, and the philosophy of the art both on and off the mat. Additionally, certain Yellow Belts may serve in leadership positions, including holding titles within the Executive Committee of Vovinam Canada.
Red Belt
The Red Belt represents fire, symbolizing mastery, dedication, and the lifelong pursuit of excellence in Vovinam Việt Võ Đạo. This rank marks the master level, where practitioners are entrusted with preserving, advancing, and transmitting both the techniques and philosophy of the art.
Red Belts are responsible for refining advanced techniques, deepening philosophical understanding, and mentoring instructors and students alike. Beyond technical mastery, they serve as guardians of tradition and culture, embodying leadership, humility, and service to the Vovinam community in Canada and around the world.
